Roncesvalles Duo: Doulas On Bikes

Dec 19, 2016

Pregnancy and birth are pivotal times, full of transformation. Undergoing certain processes in the body can be very demanding and may leave you feeling isolated or confused. With all the choices nowadays, it is important to understand and comprehend all choices and aspects of the birthing process.

You have many options of caregivers to consider when becoming pregnant. Choosing between midwives or an OB, and whether to add a doula, can become overwhelming for some.

The most important thing is to be informed and educated on all aspects of each practitioner while choosing the best option for you!

What is a Doula?

A doula is a qualified birth professional (often certified through an organization, such as CAPPA: Childbirth and Postpartum Professionals Association, or DONA: Doulas of North America). They are non-medical birth support, trained to assist the process of birthing through different methods.

They provide continuous support and information so that parents can make informed choices about their birthing experience. Doulas can specialize in many different things such as hypnobirthing, acupressure and even in-house postnatal care.

These Roncesvalles-based, sister-duo birthing doulas Mira and Vera  support all things pre and postnatal. From placenta encapsulation to educating the community on pre and postnatal information, they truly embody “eco-community” educators.  As doulas, they are specially trained to provide information, physical comfort and emotional peace of mind to parents prenatally, during labour/birth, and in the immediate postpartum period.

Mira and Vera have been on this path together and are so passionate about being doulas that when you meet them in person, their happiness shines through. They are professional, fun-loving, certified doulas that offer their services throughout downtown Toronto. You can find them biking around from client to client while exploring the holistic aspect of everything birth-related.

Mira and Vera are truly inspiring. Not only do they show passion for every person they meet, but their mission is to educate their community. They hold free talks (see below for 2017 dates) to ensure everyone is informed and has access to this important information. Not to mention, they also reduce their carbon footprint by biking everywhere and encouraging others to live a more sustainable life!
